NORTHERN TIMBER CRUISERS SNOWMOBILE CLUB, INC.

Financial Impact of Snowmobiling in Millinocket, Maine

TAXES GENERAL REVENUE

Season 1987-1988

Conducted by Brian Wiley

Based on a conservative estimate of what the snowmobile sport in Millinocket does financially for this community, I have the following data to report. This study is based on the following numbers:

FACT: There are 850 registered snowmobiles in the Town of Millinocket. This is more than any other city or town in Maine.

ASSUMED: That the snowmobile season is 10 weeks long. This can vary from a season as short as 8 weeks to a season as long as 14 weeks.

That between the Pamola, Heritage, Robinson's Twin Pine and others, there are approximately 120 rooms available; that the average snowmobiler coming into town stays 2 nights, and that the average rate is $35.00 per night.

NOT INCLUDED: The average snowmobile tourist is an outdoors person and what he or she may see in the Millinocket area he or she may like and return any other season to enjoy. No financial impact has been applied to the numbers of dollars these people may spend when they return.

Wages of these people employed by the businesses in Millinocket area in order to sustain operations that otherwise may not be required during the winter.

Any other impact financially on the business community that snowmobile tourism may have in regard to shopping done by visitors or meals purchased away from the hotel/motel during their stay.

Chairman International Snowmobile Tourism Council

Note: This is an estimate only, based on information obtained from an unofficial survey conducted by this writer. By no means is it intended to represent actual data, but is in fact a best estimate and indeed accurate considering the information I was provided.

SNOWMOBILING IS BIG BUSINESS, THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU MAY BE MISSING!
